Seven EV models record over 500 imports each in Nepal in 2025

KATHMANDU: Seven electric vehicle (EV) models recorded imports of more than 500 units each in Nepal in 2025, according to official import data.

Nepal imported a total of 11,773 electric cars during the year. These imports came from over three dozen brands. However, only a limited number of models contributed to high volumes, while many brands brought in fewer than 10 units. More than 50 EV models were imported in 2025, but only three models crossed the 1,000-unit mark, and seven models exceeded 500 units.

The high-volume imports were dominated by three brands: BYD, Tata, and MG. BYD accounted for four models, Tata for two models, and MG for one model.The Tata Tigor EV emerged as the most imported electric car in Nepal in 2025. Sipradi Trading imported 1,146 units, mainly for use as taxis rather than private passenger vehicles.

The BYD Atto 2 ranked second, with 1,074 units imported within just four months of its launch during the NADA Auto Show 2025. Third on the list was the MG S5, which entered the market in March 2025. Paramount Motors imported 1,052 units of the model by the end of the year.

The BYD Atto 1 secured fourth place with 830 units imported after its launch in August 2025. Other BYD models also posted strong numbers. The BYD Atto 3 recorded 636 units in imports, while the BYD Dolphin reached 535 units, both imported by Cimex Inc.

Among Tata’s offerings, the Tata Punch EV also crossed the 500-unit milestone. Sipradi Trading imported 534 units of the compact electric SUV in 2025, reflecting strong demand for affordable electric vehicles in Nepal.
