KATHMANDU: BYD has introduced a new essential variant of the Atto 2 in Nepal. The new variant retains most of the features and technology of the Premium version but comes with a smaller battery pack and a lower price.
Cimex Inc., the official distributor of BYD in Nepal, has priced the Atto 2 Essential at Rs 4.595 million. The Premium variant costs Rs 4.899 million, making the Essential Rs 304,000 cheaper.
The main difference between the two variants is their battery capacity. The Essential gets a 45.12 kWh battery pack, while the Premium comes with a larger 51.13 kWh battery.
The smaller battery also affects the driving range. According to the WLTP test cycle, the Essential offers a range of 312 km on a full charge. The Premium variant delivers a claimed range of 345 km.

Both variants use a 100 kW electric motor that produces 290 Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around nine seconds.
The Atto 2 also offers 200 mm of ground clearance, which can be useful on Nepal’s uneven roads. It rides on 17-inch wheels.
Inside, the Essential features a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system. Buyers can also use the BYD app to check vehicle status, control selected functions and access a digital key.
The SUV comes with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering several driver assistance and safety features. According to the company, more than 80 percent of the vehicle’s body structure uses high-strength steel.

What is the monthly installment?
The BYD Atto 2 Essential is priced at Rs 4.595 million. With a 40 percent down payment, buyers need to pay Rs 1.838 million upfront.
The remaining Rs 2.757 million can be financed through a bank loan. Assuming a seven-year repayment period of 84 months and an annual interest rate of 5.9 percent, the estimated monthly installment would be around Rs 40,144.
The actual installment may vary depending on the bank’s loan terms and applicable charges.
