KATHMANDU: BYD has officially launched the Denza Z electric supercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, introducing its new flagship performance EV in global markets.

The Denza Z will be offered in Coupe, Spider, and Racing variants. It is the first model based on BYD’s new e³ platform and is designed to compete with premium performance cars from Porsche, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

All three variants are powered by a tri-motor setup comprising one front motor and two rear motors. The system delivers a combined 1,582 hp (1,604 PS).

The top-spec Racing variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 1.96 seconds when fitted with optional semi-slick tires. The Coupe completes the sprint in 2.25 seconds, while the Spider takes 2.3 seconds. By comparison, the Porsche 911 Turbo S requires 2.5 seconds.

The Denza Z is equipped with a 76 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 and an 800V electrical architecture. It supports BYD’s Flash Charging technology, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes.

Depending on the variant, the electric supercar offers a WLTP driving range of 380 km to 410 km.

The model also features BYD’s in-house steer-by-wire system and DiSus-M magnetorheological intelligent suspension. Inside, it comes with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch infotainment display, and a premium sound system.

In the UK, the Denza Z Coupe starts at US$192,000, while the Spider is priced from US$215,000 and the Racing variant from US$232,000. Despite its performance, the Denza Z undercuts the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which starts at around US$267,000.

In China, pre-orders have already opened. Prices start at US$100,000 for the Coupe, US$115,000 for the Spider, and US$175,000 for the Racing variant. Customer deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026.

According to media reports, the Denza Z received more than 1,000 orders globally within the first 24 hours of its domestic pre-sale, which began on July 13.
