KATHMANDU: Customers who booked the Chery Q in Nepal are now waiting for their vehicles to arrive. The model received a strong response shortly after its launch, with a large number of bookings during two major auto events.
Pioneer Moto Corp, the authorized distributor of Chery in Nepal, received a significant number of bookings for the Chery Q at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo and the recently concluded NADA Auto Show. The company is estimated to have received around 1,000 bookings.
The crossover attracted buyers with its design, features, technology and competitive pricing.
However, bringing the vehicles from China has become a challenge for the company. Nepal’s two major trade routes with China, Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani, are currently not operating.
The Rasuwagadhi route was affected after floods damaged roads and other infrastructure in the area. Tatopani has also been closed by the Chinese authorities until further notice due to safety concerns.
At present, the Korala border point is the only operational route for importing vehicles from China.
The company says the Chery Q has already left the factory in China. With discussions underway about reopening the Tatopani border within the next few days, Pioneer Moto Corp is also working on alternative arrangements.
Pioneer Moto Corp Director Gaurav Sarada said the company is targeting the arrival of the Chery Q in Kathmandu by the end of September.
“We are prioritizing customers who booked the vehicle earlier and want to deliver the cars as soon as possible. The current border situation has created some challenges, but we are working on alternative arrangements to bring the vehicles to Kathmandu by the end of September,” Sarada said.
Why are customers interested in the Chery Q?
The Chery Q has gained attention in Nepal for its combination of price, design and features. The company has set the regular price of the Comfort variant at Rs. 3.449 million, while the Premium variant costs Rs. 3.599 million.
However, during the exhibition offer, the Comfort variant was available at Rs. 3.099 million, while the Premium variant was priced at Rs. 3.299 million.
The aggressive pricing has been one of the key factors behind the strong customer response. The Chery Q comes with a 41.2 kWh battery and offers a claimed range of up to 400 km on a full charge.
It supports up to 85 kW DC fast charging. According to the company, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in around 16 minutes.
Feature-rich electric crossover
The Chery Q has 175 mm of ground clearance and comes with a 540-degree surround-view camera. It also gets a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The vehicle features an ADAS package with more than 20 functions.
Built on an advanced electric vehicle platform, the Chery Q uses a rear-wheel-drive system. It also offers a practical interior with 375 liters of boot space, which can be expanded to 1,450 liters by folding the rear seats.
The model has also received international design recognition. The Chery Q won the Red Dot Design Award 2025 and the iF Design Award 2026.
