KATHMANDU: Nepal imported nearly 67,000 motorcycles and scooters in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2026/27.
According to the Department of Customs, a total of 66,840 two-wheelers were imported during Shrawan and Bhadra (mid-July to mid-September). The figure includes both completely built units (CBUs) and unassembled units.
The total import value stood at around Rs 9.72 billion. The government collected Rs 8.61 billion in revenue from two-wheeler imports during the period.
Electric two-wheelers accounted for 14.47% of total imports. A total of 9,962 electric two-wheelers entered Nepal during the two-month period.
Of them, 75 were electric motorcycles, while 9,887 were electric scooters. The growing demand for electric scooters has led to a rise in their imports.
More than 80% of the imported two-wheelers were unassembled units. Several motorcycle brands have local assembly operations in Nepal.
Royal Enfield, Bajaj, TVS, Yamaha, Hero, Honda and CFMoto are among the brands assembling motorcycles or scooters in Nepal.
The import figures indicate that motorcycles and scooters continue to account for a major share of Nepal’s personal mobility market, while electric scooters are gradually increasing their presence.
