KATHMANDU: Mitsubishi could launch an all-new Outlander as early as 2028, according to a report from Japan. The fifth-generation SUV is expected to get a new design and an upgraded plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The new Outlander could take design inspiration from the Mitsubishi Elevance Concept, which was unveiled last year. The concept featured a new front-end design with slim lighting elements, a body-colored grille and a full-width rear light bar.
The biggest changes, however, could come under the skin. The current Outlander PHEV uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors and a 22.7 kWh battery. The system produces a combined 297 hp and 450 Nm of torque.
For the next-generation model, Mitsubishi is reportedly considering four electric motors. Two additional motors could help the SUV deliver more power while also improving its all-wheel-drive system.
The four-motor setup could be used with Mitsubishi’s next-generation Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. It would allow the system to control power delivery to each wheel more precisely.
Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed the launch date or the four-motor powertrain for the next-generation Outlander. The 2028 timeline and technical details remain based on reports from Japan.
