KATHMANDU: BYD has launched its Racco electric kei car in Sri Lanka, marking the model’s first entry into a market outside Japan. The compact electric vehicle is priced at USD 34,615 under an introductory offer.
The Racco made its debut in Japan in July 2026. Sri Lanka is its first international market, while Macau is also among the markets planned for its overseas expansion.
The BYD Racco is a compact, four-seat electric car designed for urban use. It measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and 1,800 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,520 mm and a minimum turning radius of 4.8 meters, making it suitable for narrow roads and tight parking spaces.

The electric car is powered by a front-mounted motor producing 47 kW, equivalent to around 63 horsepower, and 160 Nm of torque. It is available with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options of 22.4 kWh and 35.84 kWh.
Depending on the battery pack, the Racco offers a claimed driving range of 210 km to 320 km. The larger battery version delivers up to 320 km under the WLTC testing cycle. The car also provides 280 liters of boot space.
In Japan, the Racco was introduced with prices ranging from approximately USD 13,555 to USD 15,815, depending on the variant. Its price in Sri Lanka is significantly higher, reflecting the country’s vehicle import duties and taxes.
The vehicle was launched simultaneously in Colombo, Kandy and Galle through John Keells CG Auto, BYD’s authorized distributor in Sri Lanka.
CG, a subsidiary of Nepal-based Chaudhary Group, distributes BYD vehicles in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, as well as selected European markets, including the UK and Slovenia.
