KATHMANDU: Three Chinese hatchbacks have received five-star safety ratings in the latest Euro NCAP crash tests. The models are the GAC Aion UT, Leapmotor B05 and Geely E2.
Euro NCAP published its latest 2026 crash-test results on September 3. All three Chinese models achieved strong scores across occupant protection, crash avoidance and post-crash safety.
The Aion UT scored 66% in adult occupant protection, 74% in safety assist, 91% in child occupant protection and 88% in vulnerable road-user protection.
The Geely E2 scored 79%, 72%, 86% and 95%, respectively, across the four assessment areas. The Leapmotor B05 scored 66%, 77%, 92% and 89%.
Among the three, the Leapmotor B05 delivered the strongest overall performance in the crash tests. Euro NCAP said the hatchback achieved full points in both the side barrier and side pole impact tests.
Euro NCAP said Chinese-made vehicles now account for around 7% of new-car sales in the European Union. Their market share in the UK has reached nearly 10%.
According to Euro NCAP, Chinese automakers are increasingly meeting the high safety standards expected by European customers.
Which of these models are headed for Nepal?
The Leapmotor B05 and Aion UT are among the models expected to enter the Nepali market soon.
The Geely E2 is already available in Nepal under the Proton e.MAS 5 name. The model is based on Geely’s electric vehicle platform and is sold under the Proton brand in the Nepali market.
