KATHMANDU: Competition is growing in Nepal’s seven-seater electric SUV segment, with the Wuling Eksion EV and MG Hector Tomahawk EV offering similar performance but different features and pricing.
Both SUVs share the same basic platform, components and powertrain technology. Wuling is part of China’s SAIC Group, while MG operates in India through a partnership with the JSW Group. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV uses the same underlying technology and components as the Wuling Eksion, although the models differ in styling and equipment.
Both SUVs feature a 69.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and a 150 kW electric motor that produces 310 Nm of torque. They use front-wheel drive and offer seating for up to seven passengers. Their wheelbases are also the same, although their overall height differs slightly.
In terms of price and features, the Wuling Eksion appears to offer better value in the variants currently available in Nepal.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV was launched in Nepal on Saturday at an introductory price of Rs 5.799 million. The Wuling Eksion was offered at Rs 5.599 million under a promotional scheme. These prices are lower than their respective listed prices.
The Wuling Eksion has a listed maximum retail price of Rs 5.799 million. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is listed at Rs 6.199 million. MG has announced a discount of Rs 400,000 for the first 50 buyers, bringing its introductory price to Rs 5.799 million.
The two models differ more clearly in their features. The Wuling Eksion comes with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), which is not available in the currently offered MG Hector Tomahawk EV variant.
The Eksion also features a sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a 50W wireless phone charger and a powered tailgate. It also offers adaptive cruise control and soundproof tinted glass, features that are absent in the currently available Tomahawk variant.
These differences could matter to buyers who look beyond battery capacity and motor power. Safety technology, passenger comfort and everyday convenience are also important when choosing an electric SUV. Based on the available equipment and introductory prices, the Wuling Eksion has an advantage in this area.

However, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV stands out in terms of ground clearance. It offers 230 mm of ground clearance and comes with 18-inch wheels. This could make it better suited to rough roads and uneven surfaces.
The MG brand name could also influence buyers. Its presence in the market may offer additional confidence to customers familiar with the brand. As the Tomahawk EV is produced in India, spare parts could also be easier to source. However, actual availability will depend on the distributor’s supply and service network.
The final choice will depend on what buyers value most. Those looking for more features at a lower promotional price may find the Wuling Eksion more appealing. Buyers who prioritize ground clearance and prefer the MG brand may consider the Hector Tomahawk EV.
With similar battery capacity, motor output and seating capacity, the two SUVs offer comparable performance on paper. However, their differences in equipment, ground clearance and pricing could shape their competition in Nepal.
It remains to be seen which model attracts more buyers in the coming months.
