KATHMANDU: The compact SUV segment priced below Rs 5 million is witnessing strong demand in Nepal’s auto market. Vehicles launched during the recent festive season, including those unveiled at major auto events, are attracting significant customer interest.
Three new SUVs introduced during the NAIMA Mobility Expo, NADA Auto Show, and the Dashain-Tihar festive season are currently facing intense competition in the market. Due to rising demand, customers are experiencing waiting periods for several models in this price category.
Currently, three compact electric SUVs, BYD Atto 2, Dongfeng Nammi VIGO, and iCaur V23, have ongoing waiting periods as supply struggles to match demand.
According to sources at Cimex Inc., the authorized distributor of BYD in Nepal, the Atto 2 has already received more than 850 bookings.
“Customers are requesting immediate delivery, but the supply is not sufficient to meet the current demand,” the source said.
Dealers have also reported supply shortages for the Nammi VIGO and iCaur V23 models.
BYD Atto 2
The Atto 2 comes with a ground clearance of 200 mm and is currently priced at Rs 4.499 million. The SUV was initially launched at Rs 4.399 million, but the price has recently increased by Rs 100,000.
The 4.3-meter-long SUV features a 51 kWh Blade battery and a 100 kW front-wheel-drive motor. It offers an estimated driving range of around 350 km.

Dongfeng Nammi VIGO
The Nammi VIGO is the first electric SUV under the Nammi sub-brand of Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Its distinctive exterior design and competitive pricing have made it popular among buyers.

The SUV is available at Rs 3.899 million and Rs 4.199 million depending on the battery option. The distributor MAW Vriddhi has already increased the price by Rs 100,000.
Both variants feature the same 99 kW electric motor but come with two battery options: 44.94 kWh and 51.87 kWh.
iCaur V23
The iCaur V23 is a compact lifestyle SUV from Chery Automobile’s new energy vehicle brand iCaur. It has been available in Nepal since late December through SPG Automobiles.

With a boxy design, 210 mm ground clearance, and a lifestyle-oriented concept, the V23 has created a strong presence in the market.
The SUV comes with a 59 kWh LFP battery and a 100 kW rear-wheel-drive motor. The model was initially launched at Rs 4.799 million, but its price has now increased to Rs 4.999 million.
