KATHMANDU: Chinese EV manufacturer Leapmotor has filed details of its new A05 model with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), revealing key specifications of the upcoming entry-level electric car, according to Chinese media reports.

The A05 will be positioned slightly below the Leapmotor A10 in the brand’s expanding EV lineup and is expected to target the affordable compact EV segment while offering advanced technology such as optional LiDAR.

In terms of design, the A05 adopts a front styling language similar to the A10, with minor changes in exterior details. The compact EV measures 4,200 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,605 mm.

The A05 will feature a permanent magnet synchronous motor with 70 kW (94 hp) and 90 kW (121 hp) options, paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack using cells from Leap Energy.

Leapmotor will also offer several optional features for the A05, including LiDAR, a front monocular camera, rearview mirror cameras on both sides, a front bumper camera, different fender trim styles, a two-tone exterior finish, and multiple wheel designs.

The inclusion of optional LiDAR in an entry-level EV suggests the company could be aiming to reduce the cost barrier for LiDAR-equipped vehicles in the compact segment.
