BMW launches next-gen i3 EV with industry-leading 900km battery life

KATHMANDU: German automaker BMW has revealed the all-new i3 electric sedan, which serves as the sedan counterpart to the iX3 SUV and previews the next-generation 3 Series.

The new i3 adopts BMW’s Neue Klasse design language, featuring a clean and modern exterior with slim LED lighting, a closed-off front with signature elements, and a more traditional ‘2.5-box’ sedan profile. It measures 4,760mm in length with a 2,897mm wheelbase.

Inside, the i3 gets a tech-focused cabin with a 17.9-inch touchscreen and a full-width panoramic vision display that doubles as the driver interface. Key features include Level 2 ADAS, powered seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging, AI assistant, and an optional 3D head-up display.

Built on an 800V platform, the i3 comes in a dual-motor ’50 xDrive’ setup producing 469hp and 645Nm. It is expected to use a 108.7kWh battery pack and delivers a claimed range of up to 900km (WLTP).

The model supports up to 400kW DC fast charging, enabling up to 400km range addition in just 10 minutes, along with 22kW AC charging support.

Production will begin in August 2026 at BMW’s Munich plant, with global deliveries scheduled from autumn 2026.
