KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has started action against vehicles using tinted glass. The traffic police launched a special campaign after an increase in the use of tinted glass in private and public vehicles.
The Traffic Police fined 57 vehicles using tinted glass during a special inspection drive conducted in different areas of the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday.
According to the traffic police, vehicle owners and drivers were penalized for violating traffic rules. The office has increased monitoring of vehicles with tinted glass as its use is restricted under existing laws.
Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Chief Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suresh Prasad Kafle said vehicles are not allowed to use tinted glass without approval from the concerned authority.
Police said tinted glass makes it difficult to see activities inside vehicles. It can create security risks by making it easier to hide illegal activities, including the transport of weapons, drugs, wanted criminals, and other unlawful activities.
The Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 2049, prohibits changes in a vehicle’s color, seating capacity, structure, engine, or chassis without approval from the authorized body.
