KATHMANDU: This month is set to be a busy one for Nepal’s automotive market, with more than two dozen new two-wheelers and four-wheelers scheduled for launch. More than two dozen new two-wheelers and four-wheelers are expected to go on sale, with many brands preparing new launches ahead of the NAIMA Mobility Expo starting on August 11.
Among them are four new electric scooters from Indian brands. Bajaj, TVS and Vida are all expanding their EV line-up in Nepal with new models aimed at different price segments.
Hansraj Hulaschand & Company, the authorized distributor of Bajaj in Nepal, is set to launch the Bajaj Chetak 2501 and Bajaj Chetak 3503. The company currently sells the Chetak 3501 in the Nepali market.
TVS is also preparing to introduce the TVS Orbiter, which will become the brand’s second electric scooter in Nepal after the iQube. The model will be brought in by Jagdamba Motors.
Another new entrant is Vida, Hero MotoCorp’s electric scooter brand. CG Motors is preparing to launch the Vida V2, marking the brand’s official debut in Nepal.
None of the companies have announced an official launch date yet. However, all four scooters are expected to be unveiled around the NAIMA Mobility Expo.
Bajaj Chetak 2501
The Chetak 2501 is positioned as the most affordable model in the range. It is built on Bajaj’s new chassis and features a round LED headlamp, LED DRLs, a U-shaped LED tail lamp and a flat floorboard.
The scooter weighs 107 kg and offers 25 liters of under-seat storage. It comes equipped with an LCD instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB charging port, hill-hold assist, reverse mode, and Eco and Sport riding modes.
Power comes from a 2.5 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed 113 km IDC range on a full charge. The scooter has a top speed of 60 km/h and takes around four hours to fully charge.
Bajaj Chetak 3503
The Chetak 3503 is the premium version of the lineup. It is powered by a 3.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering an IDC-certified range of up to 153 km. Its top speed is 70 km/h.
It features a 35-liter boot, a color LCD display, full-metal body, hill-hold assist, Eco and Sport modes, Bluetooth connectivity, call and notification alerts, music controls, reverse mode and a combined braking system.
TVS Orbiter
The TVS Orbiter is available in India with 1.8 kWh and 3.1 kWh battery options. TVS has not confirmed whether both versions will be offered in Nepal.
The 1.8 kWh variant delivers an IDC range of 86 km, while the 3.1 kWh version offers up to 158 km. Charging takes about 2 hours 20 minutes for the smaller battery and 4 hours 10 minutes for the larger pack.
The scooter is powered by a 2.5 kW BLDC rear hub motor and has a top speed of 68 km/h.
Features include a color LCD display with the TVS Connect app, full LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, live location, OTA updates, hill-hold assist, anti-theft system, crash alert, cruise control, regenerative braking, reverse mode, reverse parking assist and a USB charging port.
It also comes with 165 mm ground clearance, a flat seat, flat floorboard, alloy wheels, tubeless tires, a 34-liter boot, drum brakes and telescopic front suspension.
Vida V2
The Vida V2 will be the newest electric scooter brand to enter Nepal. In India, it is offered with 2.2 kWh, 3.44 kWh and 3.94 kWh battery options, although it is yet to be confirmed which variants will arrive in Nepal.
Depending on the battery pack, the scooter delivers an IDC-certified range of 94 km, 143 km and up to 165 km, respectively.
Even the base variant comes with two riding modes. Other highlights include a 7-inch TFT display, keyless operation, LED lighting and regenerative braking.
Indian brands already have a strong presence in Nepal’s electric scooter market. With these four new launches, buyers will have more options, and competition in the segment is expected to become even stronger.
