KATHMANDU: Proton has officially launched the new e.MAS 5 electric hatchback in the Nepali market. Jagdamba Motors, the brand’s authorized distributor in Nepal, has started sales of the EV from today.
The Proton e.MAS 5 is available in two variants. The Prime variant is priced at Rs. 2.999 million, while the Premium variant costs Rs. 3.499 million.
The e.MAS 5 is a rebadged version of the Geely Xingyuan, which is manufactured by Geely in China. The same model is also sold in other markets under different names, including the Geome Xingyuan.
The Prime variant is powered by a 58 kW rear-mounted electric motor that produces 130 Nm of torque. It comes with a 30.12 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed driving range of 225 km on a full charge.
The Premium variant gets a more powerful 85 kW electric motor with 150 Nm of torque. It is paired with a larger 40.16 kWh battery, delivering a claimed range of 325 km.
The rear-wheel-drive hatchback measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height. It has a 2,650 mm wheelbase.
Inside, the e.MAS 5 features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a multifunction steering wheel. Depending on the variant, it gets either a 10.1-inch or 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. Other features include HiCar connectivity, a 50W wireless charger, 256-color ambient lighting, and keyless entry.
Safety features include six airbags, ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and several driver assistance systems. The e.MAS 5 also has a 4.95-meter turning radius, making it easier to drive in urban areas.
