KATHMANDU: The flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on Wednesday morning has caused major damage to road infrastructure.

According to the preliminary assessment by the Department of Roads, the flood has damaged at least 40 kilometers of roads and 19 bridges along the river corridor and surrounding areas.

The exact extent of the damage is yet to be determined. The flood has washed away several sections of the Galchhi-Mailung-Rasuwagadhi road and other roads. Some sections have also been damaged.

The Department of Roads said more than a dozen bridges over the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers have been washed away, while several others have sustained damage.

Road and bridge damage has completely disrupted vehicle movement in the affected areas. The department has mobilized heavy machinery to clear landslides and reopen the damaged roads.

Technical teams and necessary equipment have been deployed at several vulnerable locations in the affected areas, and restoration work has already started.
