KATHMANDU: The Nagdhunga-Muglin road, which has been blocked since Wednesday morning due to flooding in the Bhotekoshi River, is expected to reopen by Thursday afternoon.
The Department of Roads has started clearing mud from different sections of the highway to resume traffic as soon as possible.
According to Department of Roads spokesperson engineer Shubharaj Neupane, work is underway to reopen the Prithvi Highway by Thursday afternoon.
Around 13 kilometers of road between Baireni and Galaudi are covered with mud at several locations. More than 15 pieces of equipment have been deployed since Wednesday night to clear the debris.
However, the condition of the road beneath the mud is not yet known.
“If the road has not been damaged under the mud, the section will reopen by afternoon,” Neupane said. “Apart from the Baireni-Galaudi section, other sections of the road are clear.”
The Nagdhunga-Muglin road was closed at around 11 am on Wednesday as a precaution after the Bhotekoshi River flooded, raising concerns in downstream areas.
