KATHMANDU: The government has urged importers to bring cargo and other vehicles stranded in China into Nepal through the Korala border point in Mustang.
The Department of Customs issued a notice asking cargo vehicles heading to Nepal through Rasuwagadhi, Tatopani and other border points to use the Korala crossing as an alternative route.
Importers and drivers have been asked to use the Korala border to bring goods and vehicles that are currently in China and have not been affected by the floods.
“Cargo vehicles, drivers and businesses heading to Nepal through Rasuwagadhi, Tatopani and other border points are requested to use the Korala border in Mustang wherever possible for the time being, considering the current situation,” the Department of Customs said.
Floods on Wednesday morning swept away several kilometers of roads and dozens of bridges on both the Nepal and China sides.
As the damaged routes are unlikely to reopen immediately, the government has recommended Korala as an alternative entry point for imports.
The Department of Customs said it will facilitate the use of the Korala border, alternative routes, customs procedures and other necessary arrangements.
The Ministry of Finance has also set up a help desk to manage goods imported through Korala. The help desk is being led by Yam Lal Bhusal, Director General of the Department of Customs.
