KATHMANDU: The second-generation BYD Atto 1 has been revealed in China with a major change to its drivetrain. The electric hatchback now gets a rear-mounted motor, switching from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive.
The new layout also creates space under the front hood for a 94-liter front trunk. The rear luggage area offers up to 1,380 liters of space with the rear seats folded.
The new Atto 1 features a more premium cabin with a large floating display, power-adjustable front seats and a massage function for the driver’s seat. It also gets multi-color ambient lighting, magnetic “magic” buttons, additional storage under the rear seats and an adjustable rear air vent.

The hatchback measures 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. It is powered by a 95 kW (127 hp) electric motor and will be available with 30 kWh and 39.2 kWh battery options.
The new Atto 1 offers a claimed CLTC range of 320 km to 420 km. It is also expected to support BYD’s flash-charging technology, which can charge the battery from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes.
An optional roof-mounted LiDAR sensor will be available as part of BYD’s DiPilot 300, also known as God’s Eye B driver-assistance system.
The second-generation Atto 1 will compete with models such as the Geely EX2 in China. It is expected to be priced between 10,430 – 12,815 USD
