KATHMANDU: Indian automakers Tata Motors and Mahindra recorded strong vehicle sales in September 2026, with both companies posting significant growth in their key segments.
Tata Motors sold 15,384 electric vehicles (EVs) in September, setting a new monthly sales record. EV sales increased 67.38 percent year-on-year from 9,191 units in September 2025.
Tata has now crossed the 15,000-unit monthly EV sales mark for three consecutive months. The company recorded its highest-ever monthly EV sales in August, with 16,549 units.
The growth has come as Tata continues to expand its EV lineup. The company launched the Punch EV facelift in January, Sierra EV in June, Tiago EV facelift in August and Aeris EV in September. Its other EVs include the Tigor, Nexon, Curvv and Harrier EV. In Nepal, all these Tata EVs except the Harrier EV are available.
Tata sold a total of 70,210 passenger vehicles in September, up 15.27 percent from 60,907 units in the same month last year. Domestic sales increased 14.15 percent to 68,110 units, while exports rose 12.90 percent to 1,400 units.
Mahindra also recorded strong growth in September, selling 64,092 SUVs during the month. This was 13.98 percent higher than the 56,233 units sold in September 2025.

The company sold 183,397 passenger vehicles in the July-September quarter, up 26.04 percent from 145,503 units in the same period last year.
Mahindra’s SUV lineup, including the Thar, Scorpio N, Bolero, XUV 3XO and XUV 7XO, has helped drive sales. Its electric models, including the XEV 9e, BE 6 and XEV 9S, are also contributing to the company’s growth.
In Nepal, Mahindra models such as the Scorpio and Bolero are popular, while Agni Incorporated offers its three EV models.
Mahindra also recorded growth in commercial vehicles in September. Three-wheeler sales increased 53 percent to 16,343 units. Sales of light commercial vehicles below 2 tons grew 30 percent, while those above 2 tons increased 18 percent. The company sold 30,420 four-wheeled commercial vehicles during the month.
