KATHMANDU: Tata Motors has become the second brand in Nepal to sell more than 10,000 electric vehicles.

Despite more than three dozen EV brands in the Nepali market, Tata is only the second brand to cross the 10,000-unit sales milestone. BYD was the first brand to achieve this feat.

Sipradi Trading, the authorized distributor of Tata Motors in Nepal, achieved the milestone within five years of starting Tata EV sales in the country. From July 2021 to September 15, 2026, the company sold a total of 10,824 Tata EVs in Nepal.

Sipradi has been selling Tata internal combustion engine vehicles in Nepal for more than four decades. The brand has also established a strong presence in the EV segment.

Tata started selling EVs in four-digit numbers from its second year in the market. Since 2023, the company has sold more than 2,000 EVs annually for four consecutive years.

Tata has maintained a strong position despite the growing dominance of Chinese EV brands in Nepal. Brand trust, its long-standing presence, new and affordable models, and a nationwide dealer and service network have supported its EV sales. The expansion of charging infrastructure has also helped strengthen its position.

Sipradi currently sells Tata EVs ranging from entry-level hatchbacks to premium SUVs. The models are priced between Rs 2.8 million and Rs 5.9 million . The price of the recently introduced Tata Sierra EV has not yet been announced.

Tata currently offers EVs across the sedan, hatchback and SUV segments in Nepal.

How many EVs did Tata sell each year?

Tata started EV sales in Nepal with the Nexon EV in 2021. The company imported 188 units of the Nexon EV that year.

Tata’s EV sales gained momentum in 2022. The company imported a total of 1,450 EVs that year, including 1,301 units of the Nexon EV and 149 units of the Tigor EV.

In 2023, Tata recorded its highest annual EV sales at the time, with 2,557 units. This included 1,285 Nexon EVs, 824 Tiago EVs and 448 Tigor EVs.

In 2024, Sipradi brought 2,355 Tata EVs into Nepal. The total included 27 Nexon EVs, 492 Punch EVs, 1,098 Tiago EVs and 738 Tigor EVs.

In 2025, Sipradi imported 2,329 Tata EVs. The total included 164 Nexon EVs, 534 Punch EVs, 395 Tiago EVs, 1,146 Tigor EVs and 90 Curvv EVs.

Tata has maintained a similar sales trend in 2026. As of September 15, Sipradi had imported 1,945 EVs. The figure includes 126 Nexon EVs, 526 Punch EVs, 505 Tiago EVs, 764 Tigor EVs, 22 Curvv EVs and two units of the new Sierra EV.

There are still three months left in the year, while the festive season is approaching. EV imports are therefore expected to increase further in the coming months.

Tata EV sales: model-wise breakdown

Tata currently has six EV models in Nepal. Five are passenger cars, while one is a sedan mainly sold for taxi use.

The Nexon EV ranks second, with 3,091 units imported so far. The model entered the Nepali market in September 2021 and has remained one of the most consistent-selling EVs in the market. The recently introduced facelift version has further increased customer interest.

The Tiago EV ranks third with 2,822 units imported. Introduced in Nepal in September 2023, the electric hatchback reached this figure within three years. It is also the most affordable electric hatchback currently available in Nepal.
