KATHMANDU: Kia has showcased the second-generation Seltos Hybrid at the Paris Motor Show. The hybrid SUV is set to go on sale in Europe this month, while its launch in India is expected in 2027.
The new Seltos Hybrid features a 1.6-liter petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The global-spec model produces a combined output of 178 BHP and 261 Nm of torque. It comes with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and an electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) system.
Kia says the e-AWD system improves traction and provides better torque distribution based on driving conditions. The Seltos Hybrid is also the company’s first model to feature this electric all-wheel-drive technology.
The SUV retains a design similar to the version offered in India. However, the hybrid system requires the battery pack to be placed under the boot floor, leaving no space for a spare wheel.
Inside, the Seltos Hybrid features a dual-screen setup for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Other features include a head-up display, ventilated and powered front seats, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof. The gear selector is mounted on the steering column to create more space on the center console.
Kia has not yet confirmed the powertrain specifications for the Indian market. The company could use a locally adapted hybrid system based on a 1.5-liter petrol engine. It is also unclear whether the Indian version will get front-wheel drive or the e-AWD system.
When launched in India, the Seltos Hybrid is expected to compete with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Victoris and the upcoming Renault Duster hybrid, depending on their respective powertrain offerings.
Kia has not announced plans for the Seltos Hybrid in Nepal.
