KATHMANDU: BYD has showcased its Atto 8 electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show, highlighting its new Flash Charging technology. The system can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in just five minutes under compatible charging conditions.
The Atto 8 uses BYD’s second-generation Blade battery with a capacity of 115 kWh. According to the company, the battery can charge from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -30°C, it can charge from 20% to 97% in approximately 12 minutes.
However, these charging speeds require BYD’s dedicated Flash Charging stations. The company plans to install 3,000 such stations across Europe by the end of 2027.
The Atto 8 is a five-meter electric SUV and BYD’s first three-row model for the European market. It will be available in two variants, Design and Excellence, with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, respectively.
The entry-level design variant produces 456 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in around eight seconds. It offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 652 km on a full charge.
The top-spec Excellence variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 764 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. However, its claimed WLTP range is lower at 602 km.
The SUV also comes with a panoramic glass roof, a 26-inch head-up display, and heated, ventilated and massage functions for the front seats and the outer seats in the second row. Both variants feature dual 50W wireless smartphone chargers, while the Excellence gets an additional refrigerator.
