KATHMANDU: Audi has revealed the new A2 e-tron as its entry-level electric vehicle. The compact EV offers up to 646 km of WLTP range and starts at around USD 45,000 in Germany.
The A2 name returns to Audi after more than 25 years. The new model uses an all-electric powertrain and focuses on efficiency.
Audi says the A2 e-tron consumes just 12.8 kWh/100 km under the WLTP cycle. This makes it the most efficient series-production Audi to date.
With a drag coefficient of just 0.24, the 140 kW version delivers up to 646 km of range.
The A2 e-tron will be offered with four power outputs: 125 kW, 140 kW, 170 kW and 240 kW. Three battery options will also be available, with capacities of 52 kWh, 61 kWh and 84 kWh.
Despite being Audi’s entry-level EV, the A2 e-tron supports bidirectional charging.
It can power external devices through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). The 84 kWh battery supports DC fast charging at up to 183 kW. It can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 29 minutes.
The 52 kWh LFP battery supports charging at up to 100 kW and takes around 14 minutes under the specified charging conditions. The 61 kWh battery supports up to 105 kW and takes around 25 minutes.
The A2 e-tron measures 4.32 meters in length and 1.79 meters in width. It has a 2.77-meter wheelbase.
The compact EV is similar in size to the Kia EV3 and Volkswagen ID.3 Neo.
Audi has focused on making the cabin feel spacious despite its compact dimensions. The interior gets smart storage solutions and premium features.
The A2 e-tron is also the first luxury model to offer the Fidlock magnetic fastening system as standard.
An optional panoramic glass roof is available with 1.6 square meters of glass. The A2 e-tron comes with several driver-assistance features as standard.
These include emergency brake assist, swerve assist, attention assist, adaptive cruise control, parking system plus and a reversing camera.
The A2 e-tron starts at USD 45,000, while higher variants range from USD 49,400 to USD 60,400.
Audi will build the A2 e-tron at its Ingolstadt plant in Germany. The A2 e-tron has been developed primarily for the European market.
