KATHMANDU: Audi has unveiled new details of the upcoming A2 e-tron, its new entry-level electric vehicle. The all-electric hatchback will be the brand’s most efficient production model and also its most affordable EV when it goes on sale in Europe this fall.
The A2 name returns more than 25 years after the original model, which gained recognition for its exceptional fuel efficiency. Audi says the new A2 e-tron carries forward that philosophy with an advanced electric powertrain and aerodynamic design.
The 140 kW variant consumes just 12.8 kWh per 100 km (WLTP), making it the most energy-efficient Audi ever built. It also features a drag coefficient of 0.24, the lowest among Audi’s compact models.
Power comes from a 61 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery using a cell-to-pack design to improve energy density and maximize cabin space. Audi says the battery achieves 89.6% charging efficiency when charged via a wallbox using its adaptive cooling system.
The A2 e-tron also features an active air intake that remains closed during normal driving to reduce aerodynamic drag. It automatically opens while charging or in high temperatures to cool the battery and power electronics.
Audi has equipped the EV with bidirectional charging, allowing it to support both Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functions.
The new electric hatchback will be offered with four motor outputs: 125 kW, 140 kW, 170 kW, and 240 kW. It is also expected to be available with 50 kWh, 58 kWh, and 79 kWh battery options.
Audi claims the A2 e-tron will deliver a WLTP driving range of up to 649 km on a single charge, depending on the variant.
In Germany, the Audi A2 e-tron starts at around $44,000, making it approximately $10,000 more affordable than the Audi Q4 e-tron, which has a starting price of about $54,000.
The Audi A2 e-tron is scheduled to make its official debut this fall before going on sale across European markets.
