KATHMANDU: BYD is set to launch its new Sealion 08 flagship SUV in China on September 2. The mid-to-large SUV will be offered in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) versions. It will be positioned as the flagship SUV in BYD’s Ocean series.
The Sealion 08 will feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, flash-charging technology and the “God’s Eye” 5.0 intelligent driving assistance system.
The SUV measures 5,115mm in length, 1,999mm in width and 1,800mm in height. It has a 3,030mm wheelbase.

The Sealion 08 follows BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design language. It features wave-shaped daytime running lights, vertically split headlights, semi-hidden door handles and connected taillights.
Inside, the SUV gets a wraparound cockpit with a large central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. It will be available in five- and six-seat configurations.
The six-seat version gets second-row zero-gravity seats with ventilation, heating and massage functions. Other features include a 21.4-inch roof-mounted screen, a 25-speaker Devialet sound system, an onboard refrigerator and a folding table.

The PHEV version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum output of 115kW. It will be available with single- and dual-motor setups. The pure electric range is rated at up to 400km under the CLTC cycle.
The BEV version will be available with single- and dual-motor configurations. Power outputs range from 320kW to 585kW.
It will use 92.093kWh and 115.072kWh LFP battery options. The BEV version will offer CLTC ranges of 710km, 800km and up to 900km, depending on the variant.
Other technologies include Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery integration, fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, rear-wheel steering, DiSus-A intelligent body control, dual-chamber air suspension and a road preview system.
