KATHMANDU: Cars produced by JSW MG Motor India will soon be sold in Nepal by GO Automobiles, a subsidiary of the Golchha Organization. The company plans to start official sales by mid-May.

“We are preparing to start sales by the end of Baisakh (mid-May). Representatives from MG India are also visiting Nepal,” said Akash Golchha, Managing Director of GO Automobiles.

Earlier, India-made MG models were sold by Paramount Motors. Models like MG Comet EV, MG Windsor EV, and MG Hector were available, but sales remained limited. However, China-made MG SUVs performed well in the market.

Paramount Motors has not confirmed whether it will continue selling India-made models. Sources indicate it will continue focusing on China-produced vehicles.

The MG brand has completed 11 years in Nepal. After earlier distribution shifts, India-produced MG vehicles will now be handled by a new distributor.

GO Automobiles plans to bring models like the MG Hector, MG Comet EV, and MG Windsor EV, along with other larger models.

Currently, GO Automobiles sells vehicles from Ford and KAIYI in Nepal.

MG remains a popular brand in Nepal. The MG S5 EV has seen strong demand, with over 1,000 units imported in the current fiscal year. The IM6 has also gained attention in the premium segment.

Other models have not achieved high sales volumes. The Comet EV has seen limited uptake, while the Windsor EV and Hector SUV have yet to gain strong market traction.

MG Motor was originally established in 1924 in the UK. After the company ceased operations in 2005, it was acquired by Nanjing Automobile. Later, SAIC Motor took ownership in 2007. MG is now fully owned by SAIC and focuses on electric and hybrid vehicles.

SAIC entered India around three years ago. It formed a joint venture with India’s JSW Group to produce vehicles locally under the JSW MG brand. Since 2023, the company has been actively expanding both ICE and EV production in India.
