KATHMANDU: Hyundai has unveiled the new-generation Tucson with a bigger body, a boxier design and updated technology. The 2027 Tucson will be offered with petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The new Tucson is 2.3 inches longer than the outgoing model, measuring 185 inches in length. Its wheelbase has also grown to 109.6 inches. The SUV is 1.57 inches wider at 75 inches and 0.8 inches taller at 66.3 inches.

The longer and wider body creates more space inside the cabin. Rear-seat headroom has increased by 1.1 inches. The rear doors also open wider, making it easier to get in and out.

The new model gets a sharper and more boxy exterior design. It also features illuminated H-shaped elements at the front and rear. The XRT trim will continue with additional rugged styling features.

Inside, the Tucson gets Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system. It comes with a standard 12.9-inch central display, while a 17-inch screen is available on higher versions. A 9.9-inch digital instrument display is also included.

Hyundai has kept physical controls below the central screen. The cabin also gets features such as ambient lighting, wood trim and perforated upholstery.

The standard Tucson is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 184 hp. The hybrid version combines the same engine with an electric motor to produce 233 hp.

The plug-in hybrid is the most powerful version. It produces 288 hp and offers an estimated 50 miles of electric-only range. It also gets a 7.2 kW onboard charger.

The petrol and hybrid versions come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and are available with two- or four-wheel drive.

The PHEV is also the fastest version, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds. The hybrid takes 8.5 seconds, while the petrol version takes 9.5 seconds.
