KATHMANDU: Hyundai Motor India has unveiled the India-spec Bayon ahead of its official launch on October 26. The upcoming compact SUV will feature an AI-powered connected driving experience and a 1.5-liter petrol engine.

The Hyundai Bayon will feature a generative AI voice assistant powered by Perplexity and voice AI technology from SoundHound AI. Hyundai says the system will allow drivers to interact with the vehicle through conversational voice commands rather than relying solely on predefined instructions.

The SUV will also feature Hyundai’s connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), powered by NVIDIA technology. Its dashboard will have dual 12-inch curved panoramic displays, supporting onboard navigation, customizable control panels, user profiles and split-screen functionality.

The Bayon will have up to 19 onboard controllers capable of receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates. These updates will allow the company to provide remote software improvements and additional onboard enhancements. Hyundai’s Bluelink connected car services will also be available.

Hyundai claims the vehicle can recognize more than 500 embedded voice commands even when offline. Its language package will support 10 regional languages and two international languages.

Under the hood, the Bayon will get a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine producing 114 BHP and 144 Nm of torque. Buyers will be able to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) automatic.

Bookings for the Hyundai Bayon are now open in India. Prices and variant details are expected to be announced closer to its launch.
