KATHMANDU: Vehicles traveling between Kathmandu and Hetauda will now have to use different routes in each direction.
The District Administration Office, Makwanpur, has introduced a one-way traffic system on the Kathmandu-Hetauda route from Tuesday. The move comes after a rise in traffic along the route.
Under the new arrangement, vehicles with a capacity of fewer than 14 seats traveling from Hetauda to Kathmandu must use the Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Sisneri-Dakshinkali route.
The same vehicles traveling from Kathmandu to Hetauda must use the Pharping-Phakhel-Kulekhani-Bhimphedi route.
Cargo vehicles and large passenger vehicles will follow different routes. They must use the Tribhuvan Highway while traveling from Hetauda to Kathmandu. They will have to use the Kanti Highway while returning to Hetauda.
The Prithvi Highway has been closed since Sunday after flooding in the Trishuli River damaged the road at Krishnabhir in Dhading. The closure has increased traffic on the Hetauda-Kathmandu routes.
The new one-way system is expected to reduce traffic congestion on the alternative routes. It will also help reduce long waiting times for vehicles.
