KATHMANDU: Mahindra has issued an official statement regarding a fire incident involving its BE 6 electric SUV. The incident occurred on a highway near Gulaothi in Uttar Pradesh.
Videos shared on social media showed the vehicle stopped on the road and engulfed in flames. The visuals quickly raised concerns about EV safety and the cause of the fire.
According to Mahindra, vehicle data indicates that the BE 6 was driven for more than 10 minutes at a speed of around 60 km/h on a fully deflated tire. The company said this abnormal driving condition led to the incident.
Mahindra clarified that the vehicle’s safety systems functioned as intended. The company also stated that the high-voltage battery pack and electric motor were not affected and remained fully intact.
The automaker emphasized that the fire was not caused by the EV powertrain or battery system. Further inspection and analysis are ongoing to understand the sequence of events in detail.
