KATHMANDU: Elon Musk has hinted at a new Tesla vehicle with higher passenger capacity. Responding to user suggestions about a minivan, he said the company is working on “something way cooler than a minivan.”
However, expectations should remain cautious. Tesla is currently limiting new vehicle programs. The company is focusing more on autonomous driving and future mobility services.
Earlier, Tesla had multiple vehicle programs in development. Now, it is mainly focused on a smaller lineup. The shift comes as Tesla bets on autonomous ride-hailing, which is progressing slower than expected.
Tesla has considered building a high-capacity passenger vehicle for years. In its “Master Plan Part 2,” the company mentioned plans for urban transport vehicles along with heavy-duty trucks.
While Tesla launched the Tesla Semi, it never introduced a vehicle for high passenger-density transport.
In the past, Musk also talked about a minibus based on the Tesla Model X. There were also discussions about a van for The Boring Company, but the idea did not move forward.
In 2018, Musk suggested a possible collaboration with Mercedes-Benz for an electric version of the Sprinter van. That plan did not materialize. Mercedes later introduced its own electric van.

The latest comment came after Musk highlighted the Tesla Cyber truck as a family-friendly vehicle. Some users disagree, saying it is not ideal for families.
In response, Musk said a better alternative is coming. He did not share further details.
For now, Tesla’s “cooler than a minivan” vehicle remains a teaser with no timeline or specifications.
