KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army has completed the installation of a Bailey bridge at Arughat, connecting the main road networks of Dhading and Gorkha districts. The Army handed over the bridge to the Gorkha Road Project on Monday.

The 90-foot-long Bailey bridge was installed as an alternative to the concrete bridge damaged by flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River.

The heavy flood on October 11 washed away the Gorkha-side section of the concrete bridge, disrupting road connectivity between Dhading and Gorkha. Following the damage, the Nepal Army began installing the Bailey bridge on October 17 and completed the work on October 18.

The bridge measures 90 feet (27.43 meters) in length and 13.78 feet (4.2 meters) in width. The public can currently cross the route on motorcycles, while other vehicles will also be allowed to operate from Wednesday.

With the new bridge in operation, local residents in Dhading, Gorkha and nearby areas are expected to benefit from improved road access. The bridge is also expected to make it easier to transport relief supplies and other essential goods to flood-affected areas.
