KATHMANDU: Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has officially launched the Range Rover Electric, marking the brand’s entry into the fully electric luxury SUV segment.
Orders for the electric SUV are now open in the US, with prices starting at $140,450 for the SE variant. The Range Rover Electric is available in standard and long-wheelbase versions.
The electric Range Rover retains the familiar design of its internal combustion engine-powered sibling. It gets a similar grille, LED headlights and overall body design, with EV-specific changes including a closed-off grille, new wheels and an optimized underbody.
The Range Rover Electric is built around an 800V electrical architecture and uses a large 118.5kWh battery pack. It features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing a combined 543 BHP and 850Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The electric SUV offers a claimed range of up to 600km under the WLTP cycle. Its battery supports 350kW DC fast charging, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes.
According to JLR, a 10-minute charging session can add up to 220km of range. JLR has focused on retaining the Range Rover’s renowned off-road capability in the electric model.
The Range Rover Electric can wade through up to 900mm of water and tow up to 2,500kg. It comes with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics and Integrated Traction Management systems to control motor torque and wheel slip.
The EV can also tackle gradients of up to 45 degrees, according to JLR.
Inside, the cabin largely retains the design of the conventional Range Rover. It features a minimalist dashboard, central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and four-spoke steering wheel, with EV-specific graphics.
The Range Rover Electric starts at $140,450 in the US, while the long-wheelbase First Edition is priced from $183,850.
