KATHMANDU: A severe flood in the Lhende Khola has caused major damage at the Rasuwagadhi customs point in Rasuwa.

The flood, which came from the Tibet side at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, damaged the Rasuwagadhi Customs yard and the Timure area.

The sudden flood also caused damage to infrastructure and disrupted operations at the border customs point.

Authorities have launched rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas. A helicopter sent for rescue operations reportedly returned without landing due to landslides and flooding in Timure.

Authorities are investigating whether the incident was caused by the possible bursting of a glacial lake upstream.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has also called an emergency meeting to discuss the flood and its impact in Rasuwa.

Residents of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan have been alerted following the sudden rise in water levels in the Bhotekoshi River.

The Dhading administration has also urged residents living along the Trishuli River to remain vigilant due to the risk of rising water levels.
