The best electric SUVs at around Rs 5 million: a buyer’s guide for Dashain season

KATHMANDU: Dashain and Tihar are among the most important seasons for vehicle sales in Nepal. However, vehicle imports have faced uncertainty this year due to disruptions along road routes connecting Nepal with China.

With Dashain just two days away, import routes remain disrupted, leaving both dealers and prospective buyers uncertain about vehicle deliveries.

For customers planning to buy an SUV for around Rs 5 million this festive season, Nepal’s electric vehicle market offers several options.

Growing competition in the compact electric SUV segment has given buyers more choices based on battery capacity, driving range, motor power, safety technology and comfort features. Models in this price range include the MG S5, BYD Atto 2, Jaecoo J5 Pro, Changan Nevo Q05, Omoda E5, GWM Ora 5 and iCAUR V23.

MG S5

The MG S5, sold by Paramount Motors, is available in variants priced between Rs 4.4 million and Rs 5.6 million. The Luxury variant, equipped with a 49 kWh battery, costs Rs 5 million.

The MG S5 Luxury features a 99 kW motor, rear-wheel drive and five-link independent rear suspension. Its equipment includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and driver assistance features.

BYD Atto 2

The BYD Atto 2 is available in Nepal at prices ranging from Rs 4.595 million to Rs 5.199 million. The Essential variant costs Rs 4.595 million and comes with a 45.12 kWh battery.

The Premium and Superior variants use a larger 51.13 kWh battery. They are priced at Rs 4.899 million and Rs 5.199 million, respectively. Cimex Inc. is the authorized distributor of BYD in Nepal.

The Atto 2 features a 100 kW motor producing 290 Nm of torque. It also gets a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen. The SUV is an option for buyers looking for a balance of brand recognition, technology and price.

Jaecoo J5 Pro

The Jaecoo J5 Pro is another option for buyers willing to spend slightly more than Rs 5 million. Distributed by SPG Automobiles, it is priced at Rs 5.199 million and comes with a 50.7 kWh battery.

Its 155 kW motor produces 288 Nm of torque. Other features include 185 mm of ground clearance, a 480-liter boot, a panoramic sunroof, a spare tire and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The J5 Pro may appeal to buyers looking for a distinctive design, practical SUV features and advanced safety technology.

Changan Nevo Q05

The Changan Nevo Q05, introduced by MAW Vriddhi Motors, is available in Max and Ultra variants priced at Rs 4.899 million and Rs 5.199 million, respectively.

Both variants feature a 51.9 kWh LFP battery and a 120 kW motor. Equipment includes a 14.6-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ADAS and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

With a 2,735 mm wheelbase and a spacious cabin, the Nevo Q05 is another option for families looking for an electric SUV around this budget.

Omoda E5 Pro

The Omoda E5 Pro starts at Rs 5.199 million in Nepal. It comes with a 50.7 kWh battery and a 99 kW motor. The SUV also offers 185 mm of ground clearance.

SPG Automobiles distributes the Omoda E5 in Nepal. Its coupe-inspired design, premium cabin and feature-rich equipment make it an alternative for buyers looking for a distinctive electric SUV.

GWM Ora 5

The GWM Ora 5 is available in two variants in Nepal. VG Impex sells the mid variant for Rs 4.849 million, while the top variant costs Rs 5.399 million.

The SUV features a 58.3 kWh LFP battery and a 100 kW electric motor producing 260 Nm of torque. It also offers 200 mm of ground clearance and a range of modern features.

The Ora 5 is worth considering for buyers who want a larger battery and high ground clearance within or close to their budget.

iCAUR V23

The iCAUR V23 is an option for buyers who prefer a distinctive design and greater ground clearance. It is priced at Rs 5.399 million in Nepal.

The electric SUV comes with a 59.93 kWh battery and a 100 kW motor producing 180 Nm of torque. Its 210 mm ground clearance may be useful on rough roads.

Dealers have also announced festive offers to attract customers. Buyers can compare the latest Dashain discounts across brands before finalizing their purchase.
