KATHMANDU: The Nepali automobile market recorded positive growth in 2025. Total car imports increased by 15 percent year-on-year to 15,847 units.
Out of the total, 11,773 units were electric vehicles (EVs), while 4,074 units were internal combustion engine vehicles. More than 80 car models from over four dozen brands entered the market during the year.
Only three EV models crossed the 1,000-unit import mark in 2025. These were the BYD Atto 2, MG S5, and Tata Tigor EV. Details are below.
BYD Atto 2
BYD Atto 2 was launched in Nepal at the NADA Auto Show 2025. Within four months, it crossed the 1,000-unit milestone.
Cimex Inc., BYD’s authorized distributor in Nepal, imported 1,074 units during the period.
The Atto 2 continues the success of BYD Dolphin and Atto 3. It offers 200 mm ground clearance, which is higher than the segment average.

The SUV uses a 51 kWh Blade Battery. WLTP-certified range is 345 km on a full charge. It is powered by a 100 kW motor producing 290 Nm torque.
The vehicle comes well-equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen.
Convenience features include a 50W wireless charging pad, while safety is covered with six airbags as standard. The model is priced at Rs 4.399 million.
MG S5
MG S5 entered the Nepali market in March 2025. Paramount Motors, MG’s official distributor, imported 1,052 units within nine months.
The model gained popularity due to its pricing, design, and feature list.
The MG S5 is offered with two battery options: a 49 kWh pack delivering up to 340 km range and a 62 kWh pack with a claimed range of up to 430 km. It is powered by a 99 kW electric motor producing 250 Nm of torque.

Feature highlights include a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and seven airbags.
The SUV also comes equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The MG S5 is priced at Rs 4.399 million.
Tata Tigor EV
Tata Tigor EV recorded the highest imports among EV models in 2025.
Sipradi Trading imported 1,146 units during the year. The model is primarily used as an electric taxi in Nepal and is sold as the Tigor EV ‘Express T’.

It is powered by a 24 kWh battery with a claimed driving range of over 260 km on a single charge. The electric motor produces 48 kW of power and 170 Nm of torque. The model is priced at Rs 3.699 million.
