KATHMANDU: Toyota is preparing to launch the updated Land Cruiser 300 in Japan on September 16. The SUV will replace its petrol V6 with a powerful hybrid system, while the diesel engine will continue, according to Creative Trend.
The new hybrid version will use Toyota’s i-Force Max system, which combines a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine with an electric motor integrated into the 10-speed automatic gearbox.
The system produces 457 hp and 790 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Land Cruiser 300 yet.
The hybrid system adds around 170 kg to the SUV’s weight. The battery is placed under the cargo area, reducing the fuel tank capacity from 80 liters to 68 liters. Toyota has retained the 700 mm water-wading capability.
In Japan, the hybrid powertrain will be available in ZX and GR Sport trims. Both versions will come with seven seats and features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment display, head-up display and JBL audio system.
The 3.3-liter twin-turbo diesel V6 will continue to be offered with 309 PS and 700 Nm of torque. Toyota will also introduce a new entry-level GX diesel trim with five seats.
The updated Land Cruiser 300 is already available in several international markets, including the Middle East, Europe and Australia.
