KATHMANDU: A 23 year old Nepali youth, Shahzad Alam, has developed a hybrid car that can run on both petrol and electric power.

According to Alam, the vehicle can be operated using either a petrol engine or an electric motor depending on the requirement. He claims the system can help reduce fuel consumption and improve the vehicle’s efficiency.

However, detailed information about the car’s testing, electric range, fuel consumption and other technical specifications has not yet been made public.

NASA Nepal and other organizations have shown interest in Alam’s work and have already recognized his efforts.

At a time when interest in alternative energy and electric vehicles is growing in Nepal, Alam’s project represents a creative effort in local technology and engineering.

It remains unclear how practical the vehicle would be for regular use on public roads. Further testing and technical evaluation will be needed to establish its performance and roadworthiness.
