KATHMANDU: Toyota is expected to unveil the all-new RAV4 later this year, with global sales expected to begin as a 2026 model.

While the company has labeled it ‘all-new’, the upcoming RAV4 will be an upgraded version of the existing fifth-generation model, which first debuted in 2018.

The new RAV4 is expected to retain Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, but will feature significant improvements in design, technology, performance and safety. The exterior will get a refreshed, more modern look, including a honeycomb grille, wrap-around LED headlights and sharper body lines.

Inside, the cabin is expected to offer higher-quality materials, a larger infotainment display, a digital instrument cluster and a redesigned gear lever. The car is expected to come equipped with new tech features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, a head-up display, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting.

Toyota is expected to offer the new RAV4 with only hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Safety features and crash protection will also improve to meet stricter global standards.

The hybrid variant will likely feature a 2.5-liter engine paired with electric motors, producing around 225 hp for front-wheel-drive and 232 hp for all-wheel-drive versions. A plug-in hybrid variant will join the lineup later, and while there are also rumors of a fully electric version is rumored.

The RAV4 has long been one of the most popular SUVs on Nepali roads. From its first generation to the current model, it has remained a top choice among buyers. In recent years, hybrid models have become increasingly common on Nepali roads due to their fuel efficiency.

The RAV4 hybrid typically costs over Rs 20 million, making it a premium SUV option.
