KATHMANDU: Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop electric three-wheelers (E3W) for India.
The partnership focuses on last-mile mobility. Both companies will jointly design and commercialize the product in India and other markets.
Hyundai will lead design and co-development. It will use its R&D capability and human-centric design approach. TVS will contribute its electric three-wheeler platform and local market knowledge.
TVS will also handle manufacturing and sales in India. Production will be localized to reduce cost and improve supply and service.
The project follows the E3W concept shown at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
The upcoming model will target Indian road and climate conditions, with features such as adaptive ground clearance for rough and flooded roads, improved safety systems, enhanced thermal management for hot weather, and a flexible cabin layout designed to support both passenger transport and cargo use.
The vehicle will go through testing and certification before launch.
India is the world’s largest three-wheeler market. Both companies aim to introduce the first product under this agreement in the country.
The partnership aims to offer affordable and sustainable mobility. It also plans to support local supply chains and create jobs.
Both companies have formed dedicated teams to speed up development and approvals.
