KATHMANDU: Rising fuel prices are pushing more buyers in Nepal towards electric vehicles. While demand continues to grow, import volumes remained moderate during Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April).
Most importers are preparing fresh stock for Baisakh (mid-April to mid-May), ahead of the upcoming budget. As a result, imports in Chaitra (March-April) mainly supported regular sales.
Among all EVs brought into the country during the month, the BYD Atto 2 emerged as the top model.
The BYD Atto 2, one of the most in-demand models, recorded 231 units imported in Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April). In comparison, only 19 units were imported in Falgun (mid-February to mid-March).
Deepal S05 in second place. The Deepal S05 ranked second, with 62 units imported during Chaitra (mid- March to mid-April). The Thailand-made model has been gaining strong traction in the Nepali market.
The Tata Punch EV secured third position, with 55 units imported in the same period. The iCar V23 stood fourth, with 50 units imported. It has gained attention for its unique design, high ground clearance, and retro styling.
The Mahindra BE 6 rounded out the list in fifth place, with 30 units imported in Chaitra (mid- March to mid-April).
