National Planning Commission pushes for long-term funding of roads and bridges

KATHMANDU: The National Planning Commission has recommended multi-year budget source approval for the construction of eight road projects and 20 bridges.

The recommendation was forwarded to the Ministry of Finance following a recent commission meeting. The projects are being implemented under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

The recommended road projects include the Khulalu-Sallisalla Road, Dhangadhi-Khutiya-Dipayal-Chainpur-Uraibhanjyang Road, northern section of the Karnali Corridor (Hilsa-Simikot), Lele-Bhardev-Chandpur-Thula Durlung Road and the Shahid Marg road project in Rolpa.

Similarly, the commission has recommended source approval for six bridges on the Khulalu-Sallisalla road section and 14 bridges along the Bheri Corridor road section connecting Jajarkot, Dunai, Marim, Tinje, Dho and Rimna.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport had proposed projects worth Rs 9,900 million for multi-year funding approval.

The commission has also recommended multi-year source approval worth Rs 3,810 million for 53 different projects under the Ministry of Urban Development.
