KATHMANDU: Honda has unveiled its first premium electric mountain bike, the RNO, at the EICMA 2026 motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.

The RNO has been jointly developed with German electric mountain bike manufacturer ROTWILD. It features a carbon monocoque frame and a distinctive gull-arm swingarm inspired by Honda’s motorcycle chassis technology.

The electric mountain bike weighs around 24 kg and gets 160mm FOX 36 FLOAT Factory Kashima front suspension and a FOX FLOAT X Factory Kashima rear shock. It uses a mixed-wheel setup, with a 29-inch front wheel and a 27.5-inch rear wheel. Shimano DEORE XT four-piston brakes handle braking duties.

The RNO is powered by Shimano’s latest 2.3kg drive unit, which produces up to 750W of power and 100Nm of torque. It gets a 720Wh battery.

The motor features Shimano’s AUTO ASSIST system, which adjusts power assistance based on terrain and rider input. It also gets AUTO SHIFT for automatic gear changes and an Assist Carryover function that briefly maintains motor assistance after the rider stops pedalling.

Other features include a 2.2-inch color display integrated into the top tube, USB-C charging and smartphone connectivity through the Shimano app. The app also allows riders to adjust motor settings and electronically lock the bike.

Honda has not announced the price or availability of the RNO. With its carbon frame, premium suspension and high-end electrical components, the electric mountain bike is positioned in the premium segment.
