KATHMANDU: Honda and Mitsubishi are jointly developing a Honda-branded pickup truck based on the Mitsubishi Triton. The new model is expected to launch in Southeast Asia markets by 2028.

The two Japanese automakers have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-develop the pickup. The partnership will allow Honda to enter the pickup truck segment in Southeast Asia market, where it currently has no offering.

For Mitsubishi, the collaboration is expected to increase production volumes at its plant in Thailand and improve factory capacity utilization.

The Mitsubishi Triton is available in several configurations, including single-cab, mega-cab, and double-cab versions. It also offers four-wheel-drive (4WD) options and a short-wheelbase variant.

The pickup is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine offered in different states of tune, depending on the variant.

The upcoming Honda pickup is expected to share the Triton’s platform and powertrain options. However, it will likely feature distinct styling to differentiate it from the Mitsubishi model.

Further details about the Honda-branded pickup, including its specifications, pricing, and exact launch date, have not yet been announced.
