KATHMANDU: Hyundai Motor Company has started testing a new compact SUV in India that is expected to be positioned between the Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Creta.

The heavily camouflaged test mule was recently spotted in Hyderabad with temporary Tamil Nadu registration plates. Rushlane’s reports suggest that the upcoming model will be based on the international-spec Hyundai Bayon and carries the codename ‘BC4i’.

The new crossover appears to feature a hatchback-inspired design with higher ground clearance, roof rails, dual-tone alloy wheels, and a shark-fin antenna.

Hyundai had earlier confirmed plans to launch two new SUVs in the Indian market by FY2027, including a Bayon-based model.

Globally, the Bayon is available with 1.2-liter petrol and 1.0-liter turbo-petrol mild-hybrid engine options. However, Hyundai has not yet revealed powertrain details for the India-spec version.
