KATHMANDU: Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has introduced a new motocross motorcycle in the international market. The company has launched the Ducati Desmo250 MX, its smallest model in the Desmo lineup.

The new Desmo250 MX is based on the Ducati Desmo450 MX. It shares the same chassis, electronics, and overall platform as the larger model. The Desmo series is mainly developed for off-road racing purposes.

The motorcycle comes with a 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. The engine produces 44.5 hp at 12,500 rpm and 28.3 Nm of torque at 8,800 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed gearbox and features an upshift quickshifter.

The Desmo250 MX uses Ducati’s Desmodromic valve system, allowing the engine to rev up to 15,000 rpm. The company said the engine has been specially developed for motocross requirements.

The motorcycle features an aluminum perimeter frame, aluminum swingarm, fully adjustable Showa suspension, Kashima-coated fork, Brembo brake calipers, dual disc brakes, Pirelli Scorpion dirt tires, and wire-spoke wheels.

With a total weight of only 103 kg, the Desmo250 MX comes with advanced electronics. It includes two engine maps, three-level traction control, three-level launch control, and two-level engine brake adjustment. These settings can be configured through Ducati’s X-Link app.

One of the key features of the motorcycle is its predictive maintenance system. The system analyzes riding conditions and engine stress to determine maintenance requirements.

Ducati recommends valve clearance inspection after 45 hours of use, piston replacement between 45 and 60 hours, and complete engine overhaul between 90 and 120 hours.

The Ducati Desmo250 MX will go on sale in selected European markets from July 2026, while deliveries in North America will begin from August 2026. The motorcycle is mainly targeted at professional racers and off-road riders.
