KATHMANDU: Thee GO is set to develop a battery energy storage system (BESS) that will enable electric vehicles (EVs) to be charged using solar power.
The company has signed an agreement with Gham Power to build the solar-powered battery storage system at Thee GO Charge Point in Itahari, Sunsari. The project aims to strengthen Nepal’s clean and sustainable energy infrastructure.
Under the partnership, solar power generation will be integrated with a battery energy storage system to improve the efficiency and reliability of EV charging. The system is also expected to reduce dependence on the national grid during peak electricity demand while increasing the use of renewable energy.
The proposed BESS will store surplus electricity generated by the solar system during the day and use it to charge EVs when needed. The integrated system is expected to improve energy reliability, optimize electricity use and expand the use of renewable energy in EV charging.
Nabin Adhikari, Business Head at Thee GO, said the partnership marks another important step towards building a sustainable EV ecosystem in Nepal.

Pradeep Humagain, Technical Director at Gham Power, said the combination of solar energy and battery storage would improve energy efficiency while strengthening Nepal’s EV charging infrastructure through clean technology.
The companies expect the project to serve as a model for future solar-powered EV charging stations across Nepal.
By using locally generated solar energy and smart battery storage, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions, improve grid stability, lower operating costs and provide more reliable charging services for EV users.
