KATHMANDU: Hyundai is preparing a new sub-4-metre electric SUV for the Indian market. The upcoming EV, internally codenamed HE1i, has been spotted during road testing with Hyundai’s new-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system.
The new electric SUV is expected to make its debut by the end of 2026 or in early 2027. The model will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Inster sold in international markets.
The latest spy images show a separate digital display positioned in front of the driver. The setup is part of the Pleos Connect system. Hyundai says Pleos Connect combines a central widescreen display with a slim driver-facing display and supports connected features, AI-based voice interaction and over-the-air updates.
Hyundai has confirmed that the new EV will offer Level 2 assisted driving technology. Other expected features include automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, connected functions and premium interior features. Exact specifications have not yet been revealed.
The EV is expected to be offered in standard-range and long-range versions. Battery capacity and range have not been officially confirmed. Reports suggest the battery capacity could be around 42–51 kWh, with a claimed range of up to around 450 km depending on the version.
The new Hyundai EV will compete with models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV in India. Its compact size and India-based production could help Hyundai position it competitively in the mass-market EV segment.
Hyundai’s Pleos Connect system has already debuted on the new Grandeur in Korea and the IONIQ 3 in Europe. The company plans to expand the system to more models in the coming years.
