KATHMANDU: Tesla has updated the Model 3 in the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico with a larger touchscreen and improvements to range and performance.
All US-spec Model 3 variants, including the base Rear-Wheel Drive model, now get a 16-inch central touchscreen. It replaces the previous 15.4-inch display and offers higher pixel density.
The top-spec Model 3 Performance also gets a range and power boost. It now produces 528 horsepower and offers an estimated range of 508 km on a full charge.
Despite the higher power output, its 0-97 kmph acceleration remains unchanged at 2.9 seconds. The performance version also gets a black headliner.
The Model 3 Premium All-Wheel Drive is now quicker, completing the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds, compared with 4.2 seconds previously. Its estimated range remains 557 km.
Tesla has not revealed the technical changes behind the improved range and performance. However, the updates come without a price increase.
The Model 3 starts at $38,630 for the Rear-Wheel Drive version, while the Premium and Performance variants are priced at $44,130 and $56,630, respectively.
However, US customers still do not get vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. Tesla recently introduced V2L for the Model 3 in China, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
V2L allows the vehicle to supply electricity to external devices. With a suitable adapter, the Model 3 can provide up to 2.4 kW of power for appliances, tools or camping equipment.
Tesla currently offers V2L on only a few models in the US, including the Cybertruck and selected Model Y variants.
